Notes To Teachers

Weather C.A.M.P. was designed for my sixth grade classroom. It is being used as part of my science curriculum. It is part of a unit on air, weather, and climate. In this unit we cover many proficiencies. The students reinforce observation, classification, inferring, prediction, communication, interpreting data, and hypothesizing skills.

The length of time that I scheduled for this project was about 9 weeks. I taught background information on weather before I began the actual PowerPoint project. I will schedule the personal PowerPoint project at the very beginning of the school year the next time I do this project. This would allow it to be a getting to know you activity as well as an introduction to PowerPoint.

I would suggest that younger students use less slides and less detail. Older students can download more information to make this project much more complex. We did not scan any pictures in with the scanner. Older students may wish to do this. You may also want older students to do more searches on the Internet for information. I did not do this because we had limited time in the computer lab.

I have used our science book to teach most of the background information. We covered the topics in it before we did the final project. We covered the earth's atmosphere, winds, temperature and pressure changes, precipitation and the earth, weather prediction, and the effects of weather and climate. This WebQuest was designed to be a culminating activity. It is the last part of this unit.
